Answers to the common questions, and how to reach us when they are not enough.

Restore purchases

Pro belongs to your Apple Account, not to a Wu Ji Bi Fan account (there isn’t one). On a new iPhone, or after reinstalling, Pro usually comes back by itself. If it does not:

  1. Make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you subscribed with, and that you are online.
  2. Open the app and go to 我 Profile › Wu Ji Bi Fan Pro.
  3. Tap Restore purchases.

If the app says no active subscription was found, check that the subscription is still active in your Apple Account settings (see below), and that you are using the same Apple Account.

Cancel a subscription

Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Deleting the app does not cancel one. To cancel:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Wu Ji Bi Fan Pro, then Cancel Subscription.

If you are subscribed, 我 Profile › Wu Ji Bi Fan Pro in the app opens the same Apple screen. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to stop the next renewal. Pro stays active until the end of the period you have paid for. Apple’s own guide: Cancel a subscription from Apple.

After Pro ends, white and yellow belts, every discipline at those belts, the dictionary and your reviews all stay free.

Refunds

Apple processes all payments, so refunds are requested from Apple, not from us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase.

Microphone and speech permissions

Sparring, Tone Sparring, Scenarios and shadowing in the Listening Dojo need the microphone to hear you. Checking the syllables you said also needs speech recognition. Both run on your iPhone; nothing is uploaded (see the privacy policy).

If you said no when the app asked, or the record button does nothing:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Apps › Wu Ji Bi Fan.
  3. Turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.
  4. Return to the app and try again.

You can also review these under Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and Speech Recognition. Without speech recognition, the app still scores your tones.

The offline Chinese (Taiwan) speech model

Syllable checking in Sparring and Scenarios, the check that hears 資 when you meant 知, uses Apple’s speech recogniser for Chinese (Taiwan) in offline mode only, so your voice never leaves the iPhone. That needs Apple’s offline model for the language on your device. Without it, the app scores your tones alone, and everything else works as normal.

iOS downloads the model when a Chinese (Taiwan) keyboard with dictation is set up:

  1. Open Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards.
  2. Tap Add New Keyboard, choose Chinese, Traditional, and pick a layout such as Zhuyin or Pinyin.
  3. Back in Settings › General › Keyboard, make sure Enable Dictation is on. If iOS offers a choice of dictation languages, include Mandarin (Taiwan).
  4. Stay on Wi-Fi for a while. Apple downloads the model in the background, and this can take some time.

To check it has arrived, turn on Airplane Mode, switch to the Chinese keyboard in any text field, and dictate a few words. If dictation works offline, syllable checking will too. The app cannot download the model itself; that is up to iOS.

The syllable check is lenient on purpose: a recogniser sometimes hears the word you meant rather than the syllable you said. Treat it as a second opinion next to the tone score.

Camera for Read Anything

讀 Read Anything in the Dictionary can photograph a sign or a menu. If the camera does not open, go to Settings › Apps › Wu Ji Bi Fan and turn on Camera. Choosing an existing photo uses Apple’s photo picker and needs no permission. Text recognition runs on your iPhone.

Daily reminder

Set or turn off the daily reminder in 我 Profile › Reminders. If it never arrives, check Settings › Apps › Wu Ji Bi Fan › Notifications and any Focus that may be silencing it. The reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone.

Your progress

  • It is stored on your iPhone. There is no account and no sync between devices. Progress moves to a new iPhone with an iCloud Backup, a computer backup, or Apple’s device-to-device transfer.
  • Deleting the app deletes your progress, unless it is in one of those backups.
  • To start again, go to 我 Profile › Sources & licences › Reset all progress. This cannot be undone.
  • Zhuyin or pinyin can be switched at any time in 我 Profile › Script.

  • what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot is welcome.

For a question about a purchase, the order ID from Apple’s receipt email lets us find it. We never need your password, and we will never ask for it.
