1. Who this covers

This policy covers the Wu Ji Bi Fan 物極必反 iPhone app (“the app”) and this website. “We” and “us” means the developer of Wu Ji Bi Fan. It explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and what choices you have.

2. What stays on your iPhone

The whole course, including every word, story, drill and exam, is bundled inside the app. It does not need an internet connection to teach you, and it has no account, so there is nothing to sign in to.

As you train, the app saves your progress in its own storage on your iPhone. This includes your belt, the words you have learnt and saved, your review schedule, exam and placement results, writing drafts, and your settings such as script, zhuyin or pinyin, voice speed and reminder time. We cannot see any of it. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.

Like any app’s data, it may be included in your iPhone’s own backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to your computer) if you have them turned on. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple under Apple’s terms.

3. Microphone and speech

The app asks for the microphone so it can score your tones and pronunciation in Sparring, Tone Sparring, Scenarios and when you shadow sentences in the Listening Dojo.

• Tone scoring tracks the pitch of your voice. It runs entirely on your iPhone.
• Speech recognition, which checks the syllables you said, uses Apple’s speech recogniser in on-device mode only. If your iPhone does not have the offline Chinese (Taiwan) model, the app does not fall back to a server. It scores your tones alone instead.
• Your recordings are kept in memory only while they are scored. They are not saved as files, and they are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

You can turn off microphone or speech recognition access at any time in the iPhone Settings app. The rest of the app keeps working.

4. Camera and photos

Read Anything can read Chinese text from a photo so you can look up the words in it. You can take a picture with the camera, choose one photo from your library, or paste text.

• Text recognition runs on your iPhone. The photo is never uploaded.
• When you choose a photo, Apple’s photo picker gives the app only that photo. The app cannot see the rest of your library.
• The camera is used only when you choose to take a picture in Read Anything.

5. Purchases and RevenueCat

Wu Ji Bi Fan Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles payment. We never receive your card details, your name, your email address or your Apple Account details. Apple’s handling of your purchase is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

We use RevenueCat, a subscription infrastructure provider, to manage subscriptions, for example to keep track of which subscriptions are active, renewed, cancelled or refunded. When you open the app, the RevenueCat software in the app creates an anonymous, random app user ID. It is not your Apple Account and it is not derived from your name, your email or your device’s advertising identifier.

RevenueCat receives, tied to that anonymous ID:

• your purchase and subscription status, and the App Store transaction details for your Pro purchases (such as the product, price, currency, purchase and renewal dates, and transaction identifiers);
• the technical information that comes with any request over the internet, such as your IP address, app version, iOS version, device model and App Store country.

No name or email address is sent. RevenueCat processes this information on our behalf to provide its service, and may process it in the United States. Its own practices are described in RevenueCat’s privacy policy.

Whether you are subscribed is also checked on the device from Apple’s signed purchase records, so Pro keeps working offline.

6. Daily reminder

If you turn on the optional daily reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your iPhone at the time you choose. It is not sent from a server, and the app does not register for push notifications. You can turn it off in the app under 我 Profile › Reminders, or in the iPhone Settings app.

7. What we do not do

• We do not show ads.
• We do not use third-party analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs.
• We do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we do not use your device’s advertising identifier.
• We do not sell or share your personal information.
• We do not ask for your location, contacts or any account.

If you have chosen in your iPhone’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass us crash reports and aggregate usage figures for the app. Apple decides what these contain, under Apple’s privacy policy, and they do not identify you to us.

8. Children’s privacy

The app does not ask anyone, of any age, for personal information. There is no account, no chat and no way to contact other users. The weekly Tournament league’s rivals are pacing figures generated on the device, not other people.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the equivalent minimum age where you live. Purchases by children go through Apple, including Family Sharing and Ask to Buy where a parent has set them up. The only information held off the device is the anonymous subscription record described in section 5. If you are a parent and would like it deleted, contact us as described below.

9. Retention and deletion

• On your iPhone. Your progress stays until you remove it. You can erase it in the app under 我 Profile › Sources & licences › Reset all progress. Deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone. Copies in your own device backups follow your backup settings.
• With RevenueCat. The anonymous subscription record is kept for as long as it is needed to manage your subscription and to meet accounting and legal obligations. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing support. Because the record carries no name or email, please include the order ID from Apple’s receipt email, or the date and country of your purchase, so that we can find it.
• With Apple. Your purchase history is kept by Apple under Apple’s own policies. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription; see how to cancel.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the European Union and United Kingdom and under California law, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or restrict how it is used. Everything else the app handles stays on your iPhone and under your control, so in practice these rights apply to the anonymous subscription record. Email us to use any of them; we will not ask for more information than we need to find the record. We rely on the need to provide the subscription you bought as the legal basis for that record. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

11. This website

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, whose servers necessarily receive your IP address and browser details to deliver the pages. Its fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google also receives your IP address when a page loads. See Cloudflare’s and Google’s privacy policies.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. If a change affects what information leaves your iPhone, we will also say so in the app’s release notes before it takes effect.
